Air Freshener Fragrance Oil
Select fragrance for air freshener formats with the delivery method, carrier, packaging, and intended room-use conditions defined.

Illustrative concept imageStart with the air-care format.
A pump spray, aerosol, and passive freshener expose fragrance to different bases and materials. Discuss the exact format before sampling or making coverage claims.
Delivery format
Identify spray, aerosol, or passive delivery and the relevant formulation.
Pack compatibility
Review container and closure materials with the intended base.
Sensory evaluation
Agree where and how room scent will be assessed.
Define the air-freshener format before sampling.
A pump spray, aerosol and passive freshener need different project records. Tell us how the finished product will deliver fragrance, then define the base, packaging and room-use comparison for that format.
- Delivery format & supplied material
- Specify pump spray, aerosol, gel or another passive format. Clarify whether the request is for fragrance concentrate or a prepared product liquid. For aerosol projects, involve the formulator and pack specialist; this page does not provide pressure-pack formulation instructions.
- Base & package identity
- Share the base code, relevant carrier information, proposed fragrance loading with its calculation basis, and appearance target. Identify the container, closure and dispensing system. Record the sample format and packaging version rather than using “room spray” as the whole specification.
- Room-use observation
- Describe room setting, ventilation, placement and intended application instructions. Agree the amount or delivery routine and observation times with the product team. Separate the initial scent impression from later observations, and note any conditions that differ between candidates.
- Scent brief & commercial scope
- Provide the benchmark, desired scent character, sample quantity, destination markets and expected volume with its unit. List any odour-control, duration or coverage claims for separate review; do not use a scent-preference result as proof of those outcomes.

Make the delivery format part of the scent brief.
An air-freshener project starts by defining how fragrance reaches the room. Separate pump-spray, aerosol and passive formats before deciding what a meaningful sample trial should cover.
01Define the liquid and delivery route
Record the product format, carrier, target fragrance loading and package. For a spray, include the relevant dispenser information; for a passive format, describe the release assembly. Prepare candidates in the intended base and compare appearance and odour against a reference.
02Use a consistent room routine
Agree the setting, ventilation, application amount and observation times before comparing scent. For sprays, follow the intended use instructions and record the delivery routine. Keep immediate scent impact distinct from the later room impression in the evaluation notes.
03Review the packaged product
Bring sensory observations together with the formulation and packaging review. Record any appearance, odour or dispensing changes under the chosen storage conditions. Confirm the candidate for the exact delivery format, rather than extending one sample decision to every air-care product.
Agree the final trial conditions and acceptance criteria with your product team. This guide describes an evaluation approach, not results for a tested formula.
Approve the exact air-care format.
Connect sensory feedback with the preparation and packaging that produced it. Keep a clear boundary between fragrance preference and any functional claim for the finished product.

Return format-specific feedback
Record fragrance code, base version, loading and dispenser or passive assembly with each observation. Identify the application routine, setting and elapsed time. Report scent feedback separately from cloudiness, separation, colour or dispensing observations.
Review the liquid and pack together
Confirm the selected material and available intended-use documents with the formulator and packaging team. If the carrier, closure, dispenser or delivery route changes, agree a new review scope rather than treating approval of a pump spray as approval of an aerosol.
Define the purchase and claim scope
Confirm whether the quotation covers concentrate or prepared liquid, then agree quantity, unit, packaging, destination and lead time. Keep any finished-product performance claim linked to its own evidence and approval, separate from acceptance of the scent.
Document availability is confirmed for the selected formula and project. IFRA conformity information does not replace a safety assessment. IFRA explains the scope of conformity documentation.
Common questions.
Will one oil work in every air freshener?
No. Suitability depends on carrier, delivery system, packaging, and use conditions.
Does fragrance remove odours?
A scent may change perception but removal claims require product-specific evidence.
Can samples be supplied?
Sample format and quantity are confirmed after reviewing the application brief.
Can a fragrance approved in a pump spray be transferred directly to an aerosol?
Do not treat the original sample approval as approval of a different delivery format. Share the proposed aerosol base, packaging and intended use with the responsible formulator and pack specialist. Confirm the new evaluation and document scope before ordering.
What information helps investigate a cloudy or separating air-freshener sample?
Record the fragrance code, base version, loading, preparation sequence, packaging, storage conditions and time of the observation. Include a suitable base reference where available. Do not change solvents or addition levels at random; agree the next comparison with the formulation team.
